Founder - Irina (Ira - /ee-ra/) Potekhina, brings a uniquely artistic perspective to sailing photography. She studied art and drawing from an early age, and grew up in a family that took and developed their own photos. After attending UC Berkeley to study architecture, she worked within the custom residential architecture field for eight years, until realizing her true passion for sailing, the ocean, and capturing the beautiful moments that are unique to those contexts.
Her choices in framing an image are strongly influenced by the framing choices one would make before drawing an image for several hours, and her attention to the details of a moment or spatial relations arise from having designed the architectural spaces in which people would live and interact. The result is a particular perspective focussed less on the adrenaline or drama of an event, but rather on documenting the way we, as people who interact with the fickle and sometimes harsh sea and wind, relate to one another, the vessels that we ride on, and the landscapes above and below the waterline.
